Unveiling the Hidden Formula: How Padel Tech Junior School is Developing the Next Padel Champions

October 7, 2024 | Padel Tech

The Spanish Youth Championship was much more than just a competition; it was a showcase of the bright future of padel in our country. Amidst intense emotions, one name stood out above the rest: Cristian Riesgo, a student at Padel Tech Junior School, who took victory in his category. This achievement represents not just another trophy but reflects a methodology that is revolutionizing youth training. What makes this school different? We spoke with Gabriel García, its director, to find out.

“Cristian Lives and Breathes Padel”

“This boy is made for padel,” Gabriel tells us, recalling how Cristian, from a young age, has shown a unique ability to handle pressure. This is not the first time this young player has been crowned champion; he already did so in the Benjamin category, and his future looks even brighter. “He wakes up and goes to bed thinking about padel,” says Gabriel. But the story goes beyond Cristian. Every victory feels like a collective achievement at the academy. “Here, we all celebrate as if the victory were ours,” adds the director.

The Other Side of Padel: Why Are There So Few Schools for Youth in Spain?

Despite the growth of padel in Spain, specialized schools for young players remain scarce. Gabriel is clear about this: “Training young players is not the same as training adults. You need a specific methodology and, above all, know how to connect with the parents. It’s hard work that few are willing to take on.” Padel Tech Junior School not only trains future champions but also ensures they share a passion for this sport from day one.

What is the True “X Factor” of a Champion?

Many wonder what truly distinguishes champions. For Gabriel, the key lies not only in technique but in emotional capability. “Pressure can sink you or make you shine,” he explains. “Cristian is a clear example of how exceptional emotional control can make a difference.” For Gabriel, the mentality of sacrifice and the ability to handle pressure are the true keys to success.

“We Want to Take Them to the Professional Level”

With nearly 100 young players training at Padel Tech Junior School, the growth of the academy has been massive. “We started with 12 kids, and now we are a reference point,” says Gabriel. With several of their players already among the top 16 pairs in Spain, the next goal is clear: “We want to take some of our kids to the professional circuit.”
